Sam Smith has an "issue" with relationships.
The 'Stay With Me' hitmaker had never had a proper romance with another man until last year but insists he doesn't ever mind being single because he feels "comfortable" alone.
He said: "I was in a relationship for a few months before Christmas, but I really have an issue with relationships.
"In fact, I have never really had a relationship up to a few months ago. I am just very comfortable and happy alone."
However, the 23-year-old star has also been left "sad and lonely" by feelings of unrequited love and thinks he needs to be less controlling and open to sharing his life with someone else.
He added: "I am lucky in that respect but at the same time I have moments where I have fallen in love with people that don't love me back and I have very sad and lonely moments.
"I think I need to work at allowing someone to come into my life. I am a bit of a control freak I think. But I am starting to have relationships here and there."
And Sam thinks his next record will be more fun than the heartbreak anthems of his debut effort, 'In The Lonely Hour'.
He added to GQ magazine: "At the moment I am writing about being 23 and maybe doing some reckless things. I think it's important for me to have fun and maybe not be in relationships.
"Maybe my next album will be the opposite of 'In The Lonely Hour'. However, I think everything is about love all the time, isn't it, really?"
