Sam Smith hasn't "spoken a word in three days".
The 22-year-old singer - who will celebrate his birthday later this month - has reassured fans he is determined to make a full recovery after cancelling a string of Australian concerts due to a haemorrhage on his vocal cords.
Writing on his Instagram account, he said: "Just to let all my beautiful fans know, I'm ok. I am insanely relaxed and am somewhere in the middle of Australia with no phone, no laptop and I haven't spoken a word in three days."
In the statement, the 'Lay Me Down' hitmaker - who released his debut album, 'In the Lonely Hour' last year - explained his time off has made him appreciate his success even more, but added he is enjoying his recovery as he has been spending his days pretending he is the late actress, Judy Garland.
He added: "Trying my absolute best to be back on my feet and singing for next week. So amazing to have this time to turn off, but it does make me realise how much I love what I do, and how much I miss you all when I'm not on stage. I hope you are all happy and healthy wherever you are. I'm gonna go back to my black and white movies and pretend I'm Judy Garland for a few more days xx (sic)."
Announcing his illness earlier this week, the four-time Grammy Award winner said he was "deeply, deeply saddened" at having to cancel the remainder of his tour Down Under.
He said: "I have been vocally exhausted for a while now however last night in Sydney I had a small haemorrhage on my vocal chords.
"The doctors have told me I need to fully rest until my vocal chords have healed, otherwise this could become a huge long-term issue. I am so sorry to all who have bought tickets, I truly am."
