The 28-year-old star - who turned to his mum Shirlie Holliman at his lowest point - has revealed he was considering suicide the day she came to help him 18 months ago.

Speaking in upcoming BBC Three documentary 'Roman Kemp: Our Silent Emergency', he told his mother: "It’s really hard and it’s hard for me to tell you this.

“That day I thought about going to the train station and jumping in front of a train. I’m sorry I never told you that.”

Roman - who has been on anti-depressants since he was 15 - explained how much he has been impacted by fears he has only found success because of his famous dad, Spandau Ballet musician Martin Kemp.

In the documentary - which airs on Tuesday (16.03.21) - he added: "On everything: how I looked, what I was doing wrong workwise, ‘Am I doing my job because of who my dad is?, Am I being a good boyfriend?’

“I remember saying to myself, ‘What’s the point? Why am I carrying on?’ ”

Shirlie - who began her music career as a backing singer for George Michael's group Wham! before becoming one half of Pepsi and Shirlie - helped to guide her son through his ordeal, and he is so grateful for her support.

He recently said: "It clicked with my mum on the phone as to what I was talking about.

"She knew she had to stay on the phone and get in the car and drive into London to be with me. That for sure, is the lowest in my life I’ve ever been."

Roman considers himself to be very fortunate to have such a strong support network around him.

However, Roman admitted that having a great upbringing didn't spare him from mental health issues.

He added: "I have the best parents any kid could ever imagine. I had the best upbringing anyone could ever imagine.

"I have a safe place that I can call home. I have great friends. But at the age of 15 I suffered majorly with depression.

"Since then I've taken anti-depressants and that's just part of my life. I know how dark it can get if ever I come off of those tablets and those kinds of thoughts come into play."
