Rita Ora is set to feature in a special charity version of ‘We Are Family’ to honour medical staff working amid the coronavirus pandemic.
The 29-year-old singer will star in the music video to the re-recorded version of the Sister Sledge hit, which has been sung by Kim Sledge - who was a former member of the vocal group - in a celebration of the heroic efforts of members of the frontline workforce in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.
The cover has been presented by Natasha Mudhar - who is the Founder of the global social impact enterprise The World We Want - and is supported by the World Health Organisation.
Speaking about the single, Rita said: "With everything going on in the world, it feels so good to see such a positive and heart-warming campaign like this one close out the year. This song is so much more than a feel good anthem, it’s about connection and solidarity. Shout out to Kim, Natasha from The World We Want, the WHO and WHO Foundation for their amazing efforts. So, let’s continue to love and show support to one another and celebrate as one big family!”
Alongside the single - which is officially available for download worldwide from leading digital music stores such as iTunes, Spotify and Amazon Music - a crowd-funded music video is also in the works, where Rita will star alongside soul singing legend Heather Small, Formula One hero Romain Grosjean, and official top-flight Spanish football division La Liga, amongst a host of other celebrities.
The video will also feature clips from members of the public, who are being asked to film themselves singing along to the song, and can submit their videos via TikTok, or at unitystrong.com, up until the 30 November.
The finished music video will then be published in December.
Kim Sledge said in her own statement: “From the doctors and nurses on the front lines, to the paramedics and police, from the midwives and scientists to the carers for the vulnerable, the We Are Family campaign will salute each and every one with a feeling of unity, strength and solidarity in response to the unprecedented challenges the world faces as a result of the coronavirus outbreak.”
