Rachel Zegler is "not invited" to the Oscars.
The 20-year-old actress starred as Maria in 2021 remake of 'West Side Story' - which has been nominated for seven Academy Awards including Best Picture - but will not be in attendance at the upcoming ceremony because she did not receive an invitation.
When a fan asked her on Instagram what she would be wearing to the event, she responded: "I’m not invited, so sweatpants and my boyfriend’s flannel."
The Golden Globe winning actress - who confirmed she was 'West Side Story' co-star Josh Andres Rivera back in February - went on to explain that she has tried to get an invite but to no avail and insisted she is "still rooting" for the Steven Spielberg blockbuster as she hopes for a "last minute miracle."
Writing in the comments section of an Instagram post, she said: "I have tried it all but it doesn’t seem to be happening :’) I will root for west side story from my couch and be proud of the work we so tirelessly did 3 years ago,” she wrote. “I hope some last minute miracle occurs and I can celebrate our film in person but hey, that’s how it goes sometimes, I guess. thanks for all the shock and outrage— I’m disappointed, too. but that’s okay. so proud of our movie."(sic)
The 94th Academy Awards are set to take place on 27th March and will be hosted by comediennes Amy Schumer and Wanda Sykes as well as 'Scary Movie' star Regina Hall, with a host of famous faces including Lady Gaga, Shawn Mendes, Kevin Costner and Anthony Hopkins handing out the famous statues.
