Prince William, Duchess Catherine, Prince George and Lupo

Britain's Prince William says Duchess Catherine, Prince George and their pet pooch Lupo are his main priorities.

The 31-year-old royal is relieved the couple's canine is "coping all right" following George's birth on July 22 because they were concerned he wouldn't take to having the little one around Catherine's parents house in Bucklebury, Berkshire, South East England, but the cocker spaniel has been happily slobbering around the abode.

Speaking in an interview with CNN, he said: "For me, Catherine and now little George are my priorities. And Lupo.

"He's coping all right. As a lot of people know who have got dogs and bringing newborn back, they take a little bit of time to adapt.

"But, no - he's been all right so far. He's been slobbering sort of around the house a bit, so he's perfectly happy."

William was proud to be the first person to change George's nappy, but insists he didn't have much choice because all the midwives at St. Mary's Hospital in Paddington, London, where the prince was born, were keen for him to take on the task.

He said: "I did the first nappy - a badge of honour. I wasn't allowed to get away with that. I had every midwife staring at me - 'You do it. You do it.' "

William insists he was so "terrified" at having to take George out of the hospital for the first time with the whole world watching on their TV sets that he practised prior to the event to make sure he didn't drop the third in line to the throne.

He said: "Believe me, it wasn't my first time. I had to practise, I really did.

"I was terrified that I was going to do some, you know - it was going to fall off or the door wasn't going to close properly. So, I had actually practised with that seat, but only once before."
