Portia de Rossi was “rushed” to hospital over the weekend for emergency surgery to remove her appendix.
The 48-year-old actress was taken into the emergency room by her wife, Ellen DeGeneres, after she was left “in a lot of pain” due to a sudden battle with appendicitis.
A source told People magazine: “Ellen rushed Portia to the hospital on Friday night, she was in a lot of pain. It was appendicitis and she had surgery."
Appendicitis is a common condition in which the lining of the appendix is blocked and becomes inflamed, and it is usually treated with surgery to remove the appendix.
Following her operation, Portia is now “resting at home”, and sources say Ellen is “taking care of her”.
The insider added: "[Portia is] now resting at home, doing well and Ellen is taking care of her. It was a scare at first, but all good."
Meanwhile, Ellen recently praised her wife – whom she married in 2008 – as her “rock”, and credited her with helping to “keep [her] going” last year after former employees of her talk show accused the show’s producers – who have since been sacked – of creating a toxic work environment.
She said: "It broke my heart; I couldn't have gone through everything I went through without her. It was a horrible time in my life, and she was a rock. She kept me going and tried to help me put things in perspective."
And after 12 years together, the couple have “grown together” and now know exactly how to make each other feel comfortable.
Portia added: "We've grown together as a couple, and we really consider each other and put our relationship first. By doing that, you become a lot more solid. I can't imagine spending time with anyone but her.”
Whilst Ellen said: "We think the same things, say the same things at the same time, finish each other's sandwiches - no, sentences. We're in a rhythm that's easy."
