The 'Mysterious Girl' hitmaker's sibling died of cancer in December 2012, and the tragedy caused the 43-year-old star to "hit rock bottom" and suffer crippling anxiety attacks, prompting him to push his partner away.

However, Emily stuck by him and her response made Peter realise they'd be together forever.

He said: "When I hit rock bottom I thought Emily was going to leave me. She's told me how difficult it was to be with me.

"I told her at the time 'Go, you don't have to deal with me', but she said no way - that she was in it for the long haul.

"She was so matter-of-fact about staying...I knew I'd spend the rest of my life with her. If someone doesn't argue with you when you're at rock bottom and shutting them out, you can get through anything."

Just over a year after Andrew's passing, Peter proposed to Emily shortly before she gave birth to their daughter Amelia, now two.

However, after experiencing a failed marriage to Katie Price - the mother of his kids Junior, 11, and nine-year-old Princess - the 'Flava' singer was in no hurry to wed again and only popped the question to give their family stability.

And he brought forward the wedding to 2015 because of his ailing father, otherwise he'd have been happy to have a longer engagement.

Speaking to Britain's OK! magazine, Peter - who is expecting another baby with Emily - admitted: "I wasn't in a rush to get married after being married before.

"It took me a long time to come round to the idea because my intention was to be like my mum and dad, who've been married for 61 years. I believe in the institution of marriage and if something has failed in the past, you don't want to fail again.

"Emily fell pregnant and I didn't want her family thinking we were just boyfriend and girlfriend and question if we'd stay together.

"I know the baby was born out of wedlock, but being engaged is almost as good. I knew I wanted to marry her but I would've waited a few years.

"It was only because my father got ill that we brought it forward."
