Paul Simon and his wife Edie Brickell have been charged with disorderly conduct.

The couple, who have been married since 1992, were arrested on Saturday (26.04.14) after officers paid a visit to their home in New Canaan, Connecticut, to investigate a domestic "dispute", according to a police statement.

The police arrived at the scene at 20:00 local time after they received a phone call from someone at the home address, who then hung up without speaking.

Upon arrival, officers believed it was a case of domestic violence, but found very minor injuries.

Police chief Leon Krolikowski is quoted by Sky News as saying: "There was aggressiveness on both sides."

No further details about the dispute were released.

The pair, who have three children Adrian, Lulu and Gabriel together, were set to appear in Norwalk Superior Court, Connecticut, today (28.04.14).

Speaking outside the courthouse, the couple's lawyer Allan Cramer claimed the encounter that led to the arrests was "much less than nothing" and the pair have never had a disagreement like this before in the past.

Paul, 72, who has won 12 Grammy awards, first found fame as one half of the folk duo Simon and Garfunkel, while Edie, 48, was the lead singer of the band Edie Brickell & New Bohemians.
