The 39-year-old singer has recalled the terrifying incident in 2009 in a new BBC Two documentary, in which she remembers trying to "unbolt the window" of her hotel room after taking a flight to Sydney.

She shares in 'Paloma Faith: As I Am': "I’ve had really bad experiences coming to Australia.

"The first time I ever experienced jet lag, I got a bit disoriented and mentally unstable and had to cancel the tour.

"I contemplated suicide."

In the documentary, Paloma also discusses her strained relationship with her dad Ramon.

Paloma cut contact with her dad more than a decade ago and she suggested that their complicated dynamic influenced the career path she chose.

She said, according to The Sun newspaper: "What I remember as a kid was my father never thinking anything I did was good enough.

"Maybe that’s why I’ve fallen into this job - to get the validation of the public I craved from him."

Last month, Paloma admitted that the music industry "isn't friendly" to women with babies.

The 'Stone Cold Sober' hitmaker - who has two daughters, aged four and five weeks - insisted there are lots of executives who want to "do the right thing" but it's difficult to stay on top of the unrelenting cycle of recording, touring, and promotion when also having children to care for.

She said: "The industry is full of people who really want to do the right thing.

"But there’s this big pull between it being a business and people wanting to do the right thing. And they’re not the same. They’re opposing pulls. I wouldn’t say it’s 1951 and people are saying, ‘Well, she’s a write-off because she has a kid.’ I think it’s a lot more subtle than that...

“It isn’t friendly to women with babies, because they want you to constantly go on this treadmill of putting out work. And basically, when women have babies, it puts a big block on that for a while."
