One Direction

One Direction took home three prizes at the American Music Awards (AMAs) last night.

One Direction picked up gongs for Best Pop/Rock Band, Best Pop/Rock Album for Midnight Memories and Artist of the Award. The band also took to the stage to perform single Night Changes.

Liam Payne couldn't believe the band's success and picked up the third trophy saying: "I can't believe we've won three, it's amazing, it's so cool."

One Direction were not the only big winners last night as Iggy Iggy Azalea, Beyonce, and Katy Perry all picked up twp gongs each.

Beyonce triumphed as she won Best Soul/R&B Artist and Best Soul/R&B Female Album, while Perry picked up Best Pop/Rock Female Artist and Single of the Year for Dark Horse.

Azalea took home Best Rap/Hip Hop Album for The New Classic and Best Rap/Hip Hop Artist. This was the singer's first awards and she gave an emotional speech while collecting them.

She said: "This award is the first award I've ever won in my entire life, and means so much to me that it is for best hip-hop, because that's what inspired me to move to American and pursue my dreams.

"It's what helped me when I was a teenager to escape and to get through my life and to better times."

Performers at the ceremony included the evening's host Pitbull, Lorde, Iggy Azalea and Jennifer Lopez, Selena Gomez - who wept as she sang 'The Heart Wants What It Wants' - and Fergie.
