One Direction were a "little bit angry" when Zayn Malik told them he was quitting the group.
Liam Payne has revealed he and his bandmates - Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson and Niall Horan - were initially stunned when Zayn informed them he wanted to walk away from the globe-conquering boy band, but they shock and frustration quickly dissipated.
In their first interview as a four-piece with James Corden on 'The Late Late Show' on Thursday night (14.05.15), Liam said: "At first we were a little bit angry. We were surprised, but I think we all knew the general vibe that Zayn was feeling. There were certain parts of this job that Zayn loved and certain parts of the job that he didn't. If you don't like your job, you've got to follow your heart sometimes and go where you need to go. There's no argument with that."
Liam insists he and the rest of the group all wish Zayn the "best of luck" with his future career and his life.
He added: "We wish him the best of luck with whatever he gets up to."
Last week, Louis got involved in a Twitter war of words with Zayn and his producer friend Naughty Boy which prompted hundreds of 1D fans to attack their former idol online.
However, Louis insists he and Zayn have now spoken and put the feud behind them
Corden asked Louis: "Are you in touch with him, have you spoken to him?"
To which Louis replied, "yeah, there's been a bit of back and forth," prompting laughs from the studio audience.
Louis then added: "I think we're on good terms with him."
Discussing their social media spat, he said: "I've never been very good at biting my tongue, maybe I get it off my mom. It's just one of those things. Twitter's great for connecting with the fans but also if you feel like saying something you probably shouldn't, it's also good for that as well. Or bad in this case ... But it's all good in the hood."
The boys also revealed they never at any point considered putting an end to One Direction in the wake of Zayn's departure.
When asked by the host is they contemplated calling it a day, Niall said: "No, not at all. The four of us love every part of it and you know, with the shows and the tour ... you know, the fans deserve it. They have been nothing but good to us - and we enjoy every aspect of it ... We are in the studio at the minute and that's why we are here (in Los Angeles). So yeah, we are looking forward to putting out more records and doing more tours ... and we are really enjoying it."
