The 25-year-old singer and the 32-year-old rapper got into a war of words on Twitter, with the 'Blank Space' hitmaker initially accusing Nicki of pitting "women against each other" after the 'Anaconda' hitmaker admitted she felt snubbed after only receiving three nominations ahead of the upcoming awards ceremony.

Shortly after the nominations were announced on Tuesday (21.07.15), Nicki tweeted: "Hey guys @MTV thank you for my nominations. Did 'Feeling Myself' miss the deadline or...?

"If I was a different 'kind' of artist, 'Anaconda' would be nominated for best choreo and vid of the year as well.

"When the 'other' girls drop a video that breaks records and impacts culture they get that nomination.

"If your video celebrates women with very slim bodies, you will be nominated for vid of the year.

"I'm not always confident. Just tired. Black women influence pop culture so much but are rarely rewarded for it (sic). "

The 'Bad Blood' hitmaker, who received a total of nine nods, including for Video of the Year and Best Female, clearly felt targeted by some of Nicki's cryptic tweets and replied: "I've done nothing but love & support you. It's unlike you to pit women against each other. Maybe one of the men took your slot.."

But Nicki fired back: "Huh? U must not be reading my tweets. Didn't say a word about u. I love u just as much. But u should speak on this.

"I'm still confused as to why u just tweeted me when I made it abundantly clear..."

She later added: "They're not missing the point, they're just attempting to overshadow the point. Oldest trick in the book."

Taylor then attempted to bury the hatchet by inviting Nicki to join her on stage at the event in Los Angeles on August 30.

She wrote: "If I win, please come up with me!! You're invited to any stage I'm ever on."

But the 'Only' hitmaker merely retweeted a string of messages from her fans, including one which reads: "Believe it or not, there are some things that are so much BIGGER than you, @taylorswift13. You owe @NickiMinaj an apology."
