Nicki Minaj with the Best Hip Hop award at the 2014 MTV EMAs

Nicki Minaj has apologised for swearing so much whilst hosting last night's 2014 MTV European Music Awards ceremony.

The rapper started the show dropping the F-bomb twice in her opening line, before saying sorry for her language but joking she could do as she pleased as she was the host of the show.

Speaking at the SSE Hydro Arena she said: "What the f**k is good Glasgow? It's November and it's the EMAs. Sit back, relax and get ready to turn the f**k up.'

"I'm sorry if I cursed, but I am Nicki Minaj."

Picking up the Best Hip Hop accolade at the event, she wasted no time in getting the audience on-side, throwing out 1,000 free drink vouchers to the crowd.

She also wowed them with a medley of tunes including her smash hit 'Super Bass' and a few lines of The Proclaimers' 1988 hit 'I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles)'.

Proving to be a popular choice, Nicki went on Twitter following the EMAs to retweet positive remarks about her performance.

One fan gushed: "honestly, I'm speechless about tonight queen, you've made mine and many others night, congratulation (sic)".

Nicki went on to post a picture of herself in the ruffled dress she arrive on-stage in, thanking the people of Scotland for being so warm and welcoming.

Changing her look throughout the night eight times, it wasn't just her outfit that changed but her wigs too.

One Direction were big winners, taking home three awards - Best Pop, Best Live and Biggest Fan.

Ariana Grande won Best Song for 'Problem' and Best Female, whilst Justin Bieber took home the Best Male prize.
