Nick Cannon and Mariah Carey

Nick Cannon feels "lucky" that his career allows him to spend more time with his two children with Mariah Carey.

Cannon currently 'America's Got Talent' host, has two-year-old twins Moroccan and Monroe with singer wife Mariah Carey, thinks it's beneficial to be able to call the shots in his career as his star status allows him to make time for his family more so than a regular job.

"I mean, when you think about it, there are so many other occupations that take the parents away from the home for a long period of time. The beauty of being an entertainer is I probably get to spend more time with my kids than the average person because I'm not on a 9 to 5 schedule.

"We are lucky because we get the ability to bring our kids with us a lot of the times and we get to control a lot of our hours."

While the twins appear to have adopted their songbird mother's soaring vocal range, Nick, 33, admits he doesn't want his children to follow in their footsteps when it comes to prospective careers.

He recently confirmed this in an interview with People saying, "My kids have talent. It is cool to see them singing and my son plays the drums. It is in their DNA. But the only reason why I say I don't want my kids to be in entertainment is because I want them to have a sense of accomplishment. When your parents are entertainers that is the easiest thing -- that's a given. I would rather them strive for something like sports or education, something that is technically outside their wheelhouse."
