The couple, who first began dating almost five years ago, have decided to go their separate ways for the time being following a series of rows over their globe-trotting careers.
A source explained: "They were having huge arguments about his career and how he is hardly ever around.
"He said he was going to quit modelling but he is still designing clothes for M&S and flying all over the world."
It's believed the Saturdays singer, 28, was pushed over the edge when she discovered the handsome model, 35, didn't share the same desire to settle down and have children.
The insider added to The Sun newspaper: "Mollie wants to start a family and is desperate for him to commit.
"Almost all of her bandmates have kids and it's difficult for her to see them then go home to nothing.
"David doesn't want kids at all right now. His main problem is that he is too much of a loner."
The couple first struck up a romance in April 2011 before they called it quits 10 months later in 2012.
Two years later the couple managed to patch it up and have been trying to make their relationship work ever since.
However, David sparked speculation he'd split with Mollie last week when he was spotted getting up close and personal with a mystery blonde during a night out in London.
