Mischa Barton found suffering a "full-on breakdown" a "terrifying" experience.
The former 'O.C.' actress was placed under psychiatric care in 2009 after threatening to kill herself, and though she admits she was never actually suicidal, she felt very "depressed" and was struggling to cope with life.
Speaking to Closer magazine, she said: "It was a full-on breakdown. It was terrifying. I was never suicidal, I was just overworked and depressed. But one slip of the tongue in a heightened moment and you find yourself in that situation."
Mischa recently became the second contestant voted off the current series of 'Dancing with the Stars' and is believed to be dating her professional partner on the TV show Artem Chigvintsev.
Mischa has struggled with her fluctuating weight over recent years but these days she is happy with her figure and is keen to carry on dancing to keep in shape.
She said: "The dancing was amazing exercise. I've also been working out and doing yoga because it takes a lot of strength to do dance moves with grace.
"I've been eating healthy, but I almost forgot to eat because I was in the dance studio practising for hours.
"My naughty meal is going to Sunset Tower in LA and ordering the fillet steak with broccoli and spinach."
And the 30-year-old beauty feels disappointed that she didn't get to show off her figure more on 'DWTS'.
She added: "My first dress was quite covered up, so I was looking forward to getting a little more sexy in the Latin dance.
"I helped design the outfits with the wardrobe department. They were so creative and open to my ideas."
