Mindy Kaling has revealed the middles names of her two children, after a fan asked her why their monikers don’t honour Mindy’s Indian heritage.
The ‘Mindy Project’ star is mother to Katherine, two, and Spencer, three months, and although she likes to keep her life as a parent out of the spotlight, she has now revealed both her kids have traditionally Indian middle names - Swati and Avu respectively - to honour their heritage.
Mindy revealed the information after one fan on Instagram asked: "Not my business but do your children have Indian middle names? You are proud of your culture and I was wondering why the kids have very Caucasian names.”
And the 41-year-old actress responded: "They do! Swati and Avu!”
The star hasn’t revealed the identity of the father of either of her children, and explained after the birth of her daughter that she didn’t want to publicly comment on the subject before she’d spoken to Katherine about it.
She said: "My feeling is that until I speak to my daughter about that, I’m not going to talk to anyone else about it. I think people are often surprised that for someone who seems as open as I am on social media and who writes things that seem drawn from my life, I find that stuff [her relationship with Katherine] really private.”
And Mindy also recently said she feels "outnumbered" now she has two children.
Taking to Twitter, she penned a sweet message to her fans, which read: "Thanks to everyone for your kind words about the new addition to my family. Being pregnant during the pandemic was a little scary, but it made me appreciate all the doctors, nurses and medical professionals who continue to work tirelessly giving treatment to those who need it, putting their own lives at risk.
"Spencer is happy and healthy and his sister is obsessed with him (well, his toys). It’s been so fun having him in the house, I almost forget I’m outnumbered now. Love and grateful hugs. Xoxo MK (sic)"
