Miley Cyrus has led people to believe she's heartbroken.

The singer split from ex-fiancé Liam Hemsworth a year ago, and posted a picture of a crying alien surrounded by thought bubbles online.

Titled 'early a.m. drawin' on her Instagram, the surrounding text suggest she's mourning the loss of a past love.

Numerous references are made in the thought bubbles to a failed relationship, with messages including: "I must go. I will miss yiew (sic)" and "why does love make me cry".

The images were followed up by another doodle, this time of another alien who's just blowing bubbles.

Billy Ray Cyrus had previously this month warned daughter Miley about becoming a "bitter ole man".

She posted a screenshot of their conversation online, with the message from her father reading: "You are crazy to be down. You are one of the luckiest people in the world right now. ENJOY IT!

"Don't be like me and miss it all worrying about s**t beyond control ALL the time.

"That would make you a bitter ole man and that's not cool" (sic)."
