Miles Teller, Ansel Elgort, Dave Franco, Jack Reynor and Scott Eastwood are on the shortlist to play Han Solo in a new spin-off.
The actors are reportedly on a list of approximately 12 young stars, also including Logan Lerman, Emory Cohen and Blake Jenner, who will be screen-tested by Disney and Lucasfilm.
Variety reports that the movie will not start filming until January 2017 but producers are eager to lock down a star as there is a chance Han could appear in 'Rogue One: A Star Wars', which is set in the time period between Episode III and Episode IV.
Meanwhile, Harrison Ford recently insisted he would be "glad" to see another actor play the space smuggler in a spin-off.
Harrison reprised the role for blockbuster sequel 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' and admitted he was surprised by how much he enjoyed returning to the franchise that launched his career in 1977.
However, although he's interested in a potential film focusing on the adventures of his character he would want "nothing to do with it - in the nicest possible way".
He said: "I have actually relished this entire experience in a way I had not anticipated ... As far as a movie featuring a young Han Solo, I don't know what to think about that. I'm glad that somebody else is going to have the burden of being young and taking care of that part, it's well beyond my understanding or control and I want nothing to do with it - in the nicest possible way!
"I know it will be well governed and well directed but will be nothing to do with me."
