Miles Teller claims he was "jumped by two guys in a bathroom" while on vacation with his wife.
The 34-year-old actor - who has been in Hawaii with Keleigh, 28 - broke his silence on the incident after sports star Pat McAfee compared the alleged attack to a tag-team wrestling match.
Pat quipped on social media: "WOW Miles Teller didn’t even eat a shot that hard #SmackDown (sic)"
In reply, Miles claimed he "got jumped by two guys in a bathroom", adding that he'd "never met" them before in his life.
Pat, 34 - who does commentary work for the WWE - subsequently expressed regret over his initial post.
He tweeted the actor to apologise for "not knowing the whole story".
Pat added: "I will fix my position and make it right… with that being said, it was a pretty good segue (sic)"
Meanwhile, Keleigh recently took to social media to clarify the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Initially, it was suggested that Miles was assaulted over a financial dispute at Monkeypod Kitchen in Maui, but Keleigh took to Instagram Stories to insist the attack was completely unprovoked.
She wrote: "The story reported about Miles being punched in the face over 'money' is completely false. Miles was jumped by 2 men we have never met after they trapped him in a bathroom. It seems these same men have done this to many people and we appreciate your support Maui. This is now a criminal investigation (SIC)."
Although Keleigh claims two men attacked the actor, the Maui Police Department (MPD) previously only mentioned one attacker.
The MPD said in a statement: "Police responded to a report of an assault that occurred at a West Maui restaurant involving a male victim and one responsible party. The incident is currently under investigation; no further information is available at this time."
