Melissa Rivers has said a big thank you to fans of her mother Joan Rivers following her death.

Since the star passed away earlier this month, Melissa has been inundated with notes and bouquets of flowers and says that her mother would have been "overwhelmed" knowing she'd meant so much to so many people.

In a post on WhoSay she wrote: "As my son Cooper and I mourn the loss of my mother, we want to thank everyone for the beautiful cards and flowers conveying heartfelt messages and condolences, which continue to arrive from around the world and through social media. My mother would have been overwhelmed by the scope and depth of the love that people have expressed for her. It is certainly helping to lift our spirits during this time.

"We are forever grateful for your kindness and support in continuing to honor my mother's legacy, and for remembering the joy and laughter that she brought to so many."

A publicist has also confirmed that a recording thought to be Joan's last was actually made by a talented impersonator.

Hired to record a radio advertisement for Brad Zimmerman's off-Broadway show 'My Son The Waiter, A Jewish Tragedy', the job couldn't be completed after Joan went into hospital.

Someone else was hired by Beck Lee to record a tape in the star's voice, but he then went on to post it on YouTube and tagging it as Joan's final session.

Now he's admitted to New York Post Newspaper's Page Six column: "I hired an impersonator and made the tape last week. I did claim it was made by Joan Rivers and it was her voice. I wish I hadn't."

Joan's spokesperson called the clip a "disrespectful publicity stunt".
