Mel C hopes Miley Cyrus is savvy enough to handle her career.
The former Spice Girls star thinks the singer's provocative outfits and twerking antics are harmless but she hopes she knows what she is doing when it comes to flashing flesh and she can deal with the pressure.
Mel speaking to Femalefirst.co.uk said "We were so innocent but the funny thing is, back in the mid 90s, we were criticised for being too sexual because we wore cropped tops, and you think what Miley's doing now!
"People who've worked quite close to Miley think she's pretty savvy, I just hope that really is the case, it's mature of her, if that's all her own work."
The 40-year-old singer - who has a five-year-old daughter, Scarlet, - with ex-partner Thomas Starr - was a "huge" fan of Madonna in the 1980s and claims she wasn't affected by watching her raunchy performances so doesn't think Miley's behaviour on stage is damaging to young fans.
She explained: "She [Madonna] really pushed the boundaries, and I don't think it affected me too much, watching her in videos and live concerts being very provocative.
"We're living in a society where it's becoming more and more sexualised early on. I just think it's a wild horse, you can't tame it, it's your responsibility to guide your children in the best way you can."
Mel also thinks it's "unfortunate" than many artists in the entertainment industry are vulnerable and can be badly affected by fame.
She added: "There seems to be so many people who are classed as celebrities these days. It's quite scary. There's very few people that go through success in entertainment unscathed."
Mel is supporting the P&G and Asda Clean Water Campaign to help provide 75 million days of clean drinking water to children worldwide by the end of 2014.
