Meghan Trainor has blamed her dad for her tearful Grammys speech.
The 'All About That Bass' hitmaker was named the winner of the Best New Artist prize at the ceremony at The Staples Center in Los Angeles on Monday night (15.02.16) and couldn't stop herself from crying as she addressed the star-studded audience.
Now, Meghan has revealed her father Gary Trainor whispered the words "you made it" in her ear just before she went up to get her statuette.
In a post on her Instagram account with a photo of her and her dad blubbing, she said: "This is me forever ... balling my eyes out. Can't believe what happened. My dad whispered 'you made it' before I walked up and lost it. I love my family so much. Without them I wouldn't be here today. Thank you to my team and everyone who got me here. Gonna cry happy tears all night. AHHHHH Just the best day of my life (sic)"
Meghan insists her dad Gary is the main person who inspired her dream to become a pop star and always told her she could achieve her goal while she was growing up in Nantucket, Massachusetts.
She told 'Entertainment Tonight': "He's a soulful, funky dude. We had a pool growing up and he would put out disco balls everywhere and he would throw these funky pool parties with bubble machines - the whole thing - and we just play Earth Wind & Fire. That was the best part of my childhood. I remember one night I went all out, I did not care what the adults thought, I just danced my heart away. He inspired me."
