The former 'Friends' star, who spent most of his twenties and early thirties working on the highly popular US sitcom, wishes he had taken time out in his career to start a family but doesn't think he was in the right frame of mind two decades ago to look after himself, let alone some little ones.

He explained: "You see parents with children and think, 'That would be nice if it was my kid.' I think I was too selfish in my twenties and early thirties to be a good dad, but I don't feel like it's over for me. My dream is meeting the right woman, settling down, having kids and being a family guy."

And the 46-year-old actor - who almost died in 2000 when he was hospitalised with pancreatitis - believes he's now at a point in his life where he can be a good role model.

But he never expected to be in his mid-forties and still single.

Speaking to the Times newspaper's magazine, he said: "I didn't think I would be 46 and still single. And you want to grow up. It's good to grow up and I finally have grown up."
