Marilyn Manson "wore down" the 'Sons of Anarchy' creator to land a role in the show.

Manson will play "a white supremacist prison shot-caller" named Ron Tully in the final season of the programme and showrunner Kurt Sutter admits his friend, a long-standing fan of the drama, was desperate for a role.

He said: "Manson, I became friends with through some music buddies. He's a huge fan of the show. That was him just wearing me down. We found a great role for him and he's great."

Kurt admitted he loves casting "outside the box" and the decision to hire Courtney Love to play a teacher in the upcoming series fitted perfectly with the "fun" he looks for in his cast.

Speaking at the Television Critics Association (TCA) press tour in Beverly Hills, he said: "I tend to do this every season, I like to do some casting that's a little bit outside the box, from Stephen King to David Hasselhoff. We try to do stuff that's fun.

"Courtney I don't know as well [as Manson]. I got to meet her a couple times and I was a huge Nirvana fan. We had this role of a school teacher and I thought, 'Who better than Courtney Love?' It sort of fits into our parameters of 'Sons of Anarchy' casting."
