One Direction star Louis Tomlinson has launched a £2 million Crowdfunder campaign to help his favourite soccer club Doncaster Rovers.
The singer - who has bought his hometown club with former chairman John Ryan - is appealing for help from the band's fans and football supporters to help realise his ambitions for the League One side.
Louis and John announced the news today (19.06.14) at a press conference in London and the pop singer said: "For me, this is all about the football, the community and restoring the excitement and desire to making Doncaster Rovers the most exciting club to play for in Yorkshire.
"I want to see the Doncaster Rovers supporters get the club the success it deserves. I grew up in Doncaster and have felt the love for football run through the town, it's for that reason that I have a real personal passion to make Doncaster Rovers a success story."
He added: "This is a big step which I believe will open up opportunities to provide a very, very exciting future for the club and its supporters."
The business partners have set up The Tomlinson Ryan Trust on Crowdfunder.co.uk and have pledged to donate a six-figure sum to the cause.
John is a self-made millionaire and entrepreneur, while Louis - who found fame with his 1D bandmates Harry Styles, Liam Payne, Niall Horan and Zayn Malik after being created by Simon Cowell on 'The X Factor' - is said to be worth about £14 million.
The 22-year-old pop star - who was born and raised in the town in South Yorkshire and has been a life-long fan of the team - was rumoured earlier this year to be planning a takeover bid, something that has become reality.
He has also played for the team during a fundraising match for the Bluebell Wood charity and against local rivals Barnsley F.C. in a reserve match.
