The 23-year-old One Direction singer visited Great Lakes Tattoo in Chicago on Saturday (19.12.15) where he got a number of new inkings, including a mystery tattoo on his rear.

A picture uploaded to Snapchat shows the singer lying on his stomach with his trousers pulled down while his tattoo is being done.

When asked by fans on Instagram what inking Louis got, tattoo artist Erik Gillespie replied: "I tattooed him, he got several tattoos."

However, the artist did not disclose what they were.

Louis was later spotted out and about in Chicago sporting a fresh tattoo of the number two on his left ring finger and the number eight on the middle finger of the same hand.

28 is the singer's jersey number for soccer club Doncaster Rovers, which he joined as a non-contract player during the 2013 - 2014 season.

Meanwhile, Louis and his One Direction bandmates - Harry Styles, Liam Payne and Niall Horan - are taking an extended hiatus but Louis has insisted they will be back.

He previously said: "We've had a very intense schedule. Five years, five albums, four tours ... I'm sure it appears alarming when we say we're going on a break, but in reality, it's such a normal thing. If you look at other bands and other artists, they [go on breaks] all the time. It really isn't as big and dramatic as it's been made out, but our intention and our love is for the band and that's always going to be the case. I hope so, anyway. I think we deserve a little break."
