The 'Bear' actress was caught in controversy earlier this year when she was due to host an episode of 'Saturday Night Live' with the 'On the Floor' hitmaker as musical guest, prompting the resurfacing of a 2020 podcast clip in which she'd likened the 'Hustlers' star's career to a scam.

But Ayo has played down any suggestion of a major feud between them, insisting she's nowhere near in the same league as Jennifer.

She told the new issue of Vanity Fair magazine: “That would be like Mr. Bean and Mick Jagger beefing, and I’m obviously Mr. Bean. She’s J.Lo!”

The 28-year-old actress also confirmed she had apologised to Jennifer before 'SNL'.

She said: "She was very chill and nice about it."

The 'Bottoms' star also revealed she had had a disappointing encounter with comedian Richard Ayoade when she approached him in a book store in New York.

She said: “I was like, ‘I’m so sorry to do this, but are you Richard Ayoade?’ And he was like, ‘Yes’ and then immediately turned away and left. That was both horrible and deeply amazing. He just wanted to be alone in a bookstore, but I was so starstruck, I had to say something.”

Although Ayo is usually happy to meet with fans, sometimes she is left feeling uncomfortable.

She explained: “If I’m walking my dog and somebody’s pulling over their car, I’m scared because I’m a woman walking alone, and then they’re like, ‘You’re not nice.’ "

The comic had appeared on the 'Scam Goddess' podcast when host Laci Mosley claimed Jennifer's career had been "one long scam".

Ayo agreed: “Well, that’s the thing — she thinks she’s on multiple tracks, but it’s not her. I think she thinks that she’s still good, even though she’s not singing for most of these songs.

“A lot of the write-ups of the songs will be like, ‘J.Lo didn’t have time to make it to the studio.’ Like, ‘J.Lo was busy.’ Doing what? Not singing, obviously.”

Following the backlash, she addressed the controversy during a sketch while hosting 'Saturday Night Live'.

She said: “OK, OK, we get it. It’s wrong to leave mean comments, or post comments just for clout, or run your mouth on a podcast and you don’t consider the impact because you’re 24 and stupid.”
