The One Direction star has sought comfort from his Great Dane puppy Watson since announcing the end of his and Sophia's two-year romance and has admitted he loves his four-legged friend.

Liam showed off the special bond he and his pooch pal share to his Instagram followers in two separate posts and one image uploaded to the site showed the massive mutt licking his ear along with the caption "little monster".

Other than being comforted by his dog - who he bought with his ex-girlfriend - Liam tried to lift his spirits this week by having a night out in London on Monday (02.11.15)

The 21-year-old pop star first attended the Music Industry Trusts Awards with his 1D bandmates to present their mentor Simon Cowell with a prize at the Grosvenor House Hotel and then he and Niall Horan went to Cirque le Soir nightclub with the girls from Fifth Harmony.

Liam admitted he was "absolutely devastated" to have split from Sophia and accepts his globe-trotting career played a major part in their break-up.

The singer - who is now on a hiatus from One Direction - said: "I'm absolutely devastated to have split with Sophia.

"Being on the tour all this year and being away from her was so hard. We spent so much time apart. But in order to do right by somebody sometimes it's better not to do what your heart wants, but to do what's better for them."
