Liam Payne feels he has "closure on this chapter" of One Direction.
The 'Night Changes' hitmaker and his bandmates - Niall Horan, Louis Tomlinson and Harry Styles - are set to take an extended hiatus early next year and the 21-year-old singer feels their latest release 'History' sums up the band's five year success story.
He said: "More than anything, the song is about the way the fans and everyone have created this massive thing - One Direction - over the past five years.
"Out of 'History' comes a little bit of closure for this chapter of One Direction."
The group got some of their loyal fans - who had lined up outside their recording studio desperate for a chance to meet the group - to perform the final chorus on the track with them, an idea which Liam wishes he thought of.
He told Entertainment Weekly: "That was actually my idea ... It's really great because obviously that song is mainly about the fans and what they've done; I think it was important that they were a part of it, to close the album."
Meanwhile, Niall recently revealed he has written a song about one night stands for the band's new album 'Made In The A.M.'
He explained: "The song has got a bit of dirt to it, a bit of grit to it. It's basically about being in the bar, and some guy is chewing the ear off you. He's got a few drinks on him, and you can tell by her body language that she doesn't want to be there, so you come over to her, chat to her ...
"Then the chorus is basically about 'I can be your temporary fix'. We don't have to call it anything - just kinda... it's relatable I guess. Everyone has a grungy night out now and then."
