Lena Dunham has vowed to quit Twitter after receiving insults and death threats on the social media website.
Speaking last night at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles ahead of the Golden Globes, she explained: "I'm trying to create a safer place for myself. People threaten my life and tell me what a cow I am."
The actress regularly posts on the account at the moment but admits she doesn't check her mentions and interactions as often as she used to because of the scale of negative comments she's received.
"I check it occasionally but it's not the same co-dependence. A lot of people I love on the internet but you can't read those without reading deranged neo-cons telling me I should be buried under a pile of rocks."
Last week, Lena addressed the criticism she received after she revealed at a younger age she was date-raped, admitting it was "very very painful".
"It's a very very painful thing to share an episode that personal and receive criticism, but what I received was only a small percentage of the doubt and victim-blaming that most women who are sexually assaulted in this country experience. I am a celebrity with a platform and a lot of incredible support.
"Most women who come forward with accusations of sexual assault don't have those benefits.
"[They] don't have my legal and emotional and financial supports, and so for me I really feel like it enhanced my understanding of the cause and hopefully will make me a better advocate and activist in the future."
Despite saying that her leave would come imminently, she continued to post updates throughout the ceremony and joked that Mark Ruffalo had caught her searching her own name online.
She quipped: "Oh don't worry @markruffalo just caught me googling myself #goldenglobes (sic)."
