The 36-year-old sportsman is still in hospital at Los Angeles' Cedars-Sinai following his brush with death in October when he was found unconscious after a drugs and alcohol binge.
But having the opportunity to spend Christmas with his children Lamar Jr., 13, and 17-year-old Destiny, was something Lamar treasured.
A source said: "Lamar is doing way better. He was so happy the kids were there with him for Christmas and they were so happy to be with him. The kids were happy ... to bring him gifts, all of his favourite things that they wrapped up. They had so much fun. It was very emotional and very happy."
Lamar Jr. had previously shared a picture of himself, his father and sister on his Instagram account after Christmas Day (25.12.15).
He captioned the image as: "Christmas with pops. Here's to 2016. Blessed," alongside a praying emoji.
Lamar's estranged wife Khloé Kardashian, 31, had paid to fly Lamar Jr. and Destiny to Los Angeles.
A source said: "Khloé flew Lamar's kids out to Los Angeles so they can spend time with him, and Khloé came to Houston for a few days while his kids are in LA with him."
