The 36-year-old basketball player - who is recovering in a Los Angeles hospital after being found unconscious in a Nevada brothel in October - reportedly surprised doctors by taking three steps without his walker.

According to TMZ, Lamar's brain function is also improving and he was able to recognise a staff member.

This is a significant improvement as Lamar recently had trouble remembering his own name.

A source said': "He's not doing great. His speech is still slurred and he can barely walk on his own yet. He forgets a lot of people's names - sometimes even his own. He definitely has some memory loss."

Lamar is being supported by his estranged wife Khloe Kardashian - who put their divorce on hold in order to continue making medical decisions for him - and her family.

The source added: "They all pop in to see him in hospital, including Khloe."

And Khloe has insisted that Lamar still has a long way to go but is confident he'll get there with time and the right care.

She said previously: "His kidneys are recovered and all of his organs are pretty much recovered. It's more his brain is still affected and physically he has to learn how to walk again and he is learning how to feed himself again.

"All those normal things we take for granted every day and it's a really long road and it's going to take a long time."
