Kristen Stewart thinks “everyone wants to win an Oscar”.
The 31-year-old star is nominated for Best Actress at the 94th Academy Awards for her portrayal of the late Princess Diana in 'Spencer' and she was "totally touched" to have made it onto the shortlist.
She told Vanity Fair’s Hollywood issue: “Everyone wants to win an Oscar, you know?
“I’m totally touched.”
Pablo Larrain - who directed Kristen in the movie - always believed in her ability to perform at the top of her game, citing Gena Rowland’s performance in the 1974 John Cassavetes movie, ‘A Woman Under The Influence’ as how he encouraged her to dig deep.
She told the magazine: “He was always like, ‘If you wanted it to be, it could be as good as 'A Woman Under the Influence'!’”
The ‘Twilight’ star thinks “one of the most remarkable things” about the Princess of Wales - who married Prince Charles in 1991, aged 19 - was that she had very few friends.
Kristen said: “One of the remarkable things is that she was so friendless. I’m constantly going, ‘Where was your f****** homie?”
During the press tour for the movie, Kristen shared about how “isolated and lonely” Diana - who died in 1997, aged 37, in a car crash in Paris - was throughout her life.
She said: "She was born with the power to help other people. There are some people that are endowed with an undeniable, penetrating energy. And all she wanted was to just have it back.
"Ironically, she was the most unknowable person and somebody who really never wanted to be alone. Some people are good at it, some people hate it.
"She wanted connection, she wanted people in her life and she was the most isolated human, at least over the imagining of these three days. We wanted that to come to a head."
