King Charles has been seen smiling amid his cancer battle as he returned from a brief meeting with Prince Harry.
It is the first time the 75-year-old monarch has been seen since Buckingham Palace revealed he is fighting an undisclosed form of the disease, with Charles grinning as he got a helicopter to Sandringham on Tuesday (06.02.24) alongside with his wife Queen Camilla, 76, following a chat with his 39-year-old son, who travelled from his home in the US in the wake of his dad’s condition being announced.
The meeting between Charles and Harry at Clarence House was their first face-to-face encounter for 16 months, and a palace source told the Daily Telegraph: “Charles is on his usual good form in every way.
“He’s just a little frustrated that his condition has affected not just his own plans but impacted on others.”
Harry landed at Heathrow airport on Tuesday around lunchtime after flood warnings and stormy weather in California reportedly delayed his travels, with his dash to the UK coming after Charles’ cancer diagnosis was announced on Monday. (05.02.24)
It is understood Charles personally told Harry about his illness in what has been widely reported as a “warm conversation”.
Harry is not believed to have met his father face to face since the late Queen's funeral in September 2022.
He and Charles also did not see each other on Harry’s last visit to the UK on the one-year anniversary last September of Queen Elizabeth’s death in September 2022.
It is not yet known where Harry will stay while visiting Charles in the UK.
Charles – whose cancer diagnosis was revealed after he went into the London Clinic for a corrective procedure to treat an enlarged prostate – has already begun a schedule of regular treatments for the disease.
Charles will continue with his weekly audiences with the UK’s Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, but they may have to be scaled back on the advice of doctors.
Other Royals, including Queen Camilla, are set to continue with a full programme of public duties.
