Kim Kardashian West and Rihanna have led the tributes to the victims of the Nice attack.

84 people died and countless more were injured when a 31-year-old man deliberately drove a truck into the crowd celebrating Bastille Day along the Promenade des Anglais on Thursday (14.07.16) and a number of stars took to social media to share their shock and sadness at the atrocity.

Kim tweeted: "Finally home & seeing the news. My heart goes out to everyone in Nice. Lots of prayers being sent your way. God the world needs you."

Rihanna was due to perform at the Allianz Stadium in Nice on Friday (15.07.16) as part of her 'Anti World Tour' but has now axed the gig.

She wrote on Instagram: "Due to the tragic events in #Nice, my concert scheduled for tomorrow July 15 at Allianz Stadium will not be going ahead as planned. Our thoughts are with the victims and their families."

Other stars who took to social media following the attack include Simon Cowell, who tweeted: "Just heard the terrible news from Nice. I am shocked. My thoughts and prayers to all affected."

Lily Allen wrote: "So sad to learn of the situation in Nice right now. I wish senseless killings would stop happening, the world over" and Justin Timberlake was one of many who shared the "PrayForNice" hashtag.

Mandy Moore wrote on Twitter: "Our hearts are with you #Nice. #prayfornice," Sophie Bush tweeted "Heartbroken to hear the news about Nice, France... Hatred has to stop. Promoting any kind of hatred, anywhere, has to stop" and Josh Duhamel added: "My heart goes out to France. #PrayForNice."

Paris Hilton condemned the "senseless act of violence", writing on Instagram: "So sad to hear of the horrific tragedies that happened in #Nice tonight. 😢 What is happening to our world? These senseless acts of violence to innocent people needs to stop! Can't we all just live our lives in love & peace? My heart & prayers go out to all the victims & their families. Truly heartbreaking #PrayForNice #PrayForFrance 🇫🇷 #PrayForTheWorld."
