The 20-year-old model recently enjoyed a romantic getaway on board a yacht in St Barts with the One Direction heartthrob and sources close to Kendall claim she initiated the rendezvous.
However, it is believed the pair - who previously dated briefly in 2013 - are not planning to get serious because of their busy schedules.
A source told Entertainment Tonight: "Kendall is just having fun right now.
"It can't go anywhere serious. Kendall lives in Los Angeles and New York City, working constantly around the world, and Harry lives in London and tours around the world."
Another reason for Kendall's desire to keep things casual is reportedly her fear of getting hurt by the 21-year-old singer.
The insider added: "Kendall is proceeding with caution and seeing where it goes. She doesn't want to get hurt. She knows what the deal is."
Meanwhile, Kendall's sister Khloe Kardashian, 31, confirmed the pair are dating but insisted she wasn't sure how serious they are.
She said: "Do I think they're dating? Yes. I don't know if they're like boyfriend-girlfriend. Nowadays I don't know. People are weird with stuff. So, I don't know their title. But I mean, they were in St. Barts together hanging out, so to me that's dating."
