Keith Urban's life began when he met Nicole Kidman.
The 48-year-old country singer - who has previously battled cocaine addiction - was first introduced to the 'Before I Go To Sleep' actress in January 2005 and they began dating six months later before getting married in June 2006, and the 'Somebody Like You' singer found their relationship signified a completely new start for him.
He said: "Meeting her and getting married wasn't life-changing, it was life-beginning. It was literally, like, 'OK, life starts.' "
Keith - who has daughters Sunday, seven, and Faith, five, with his 48-year-old wife - has spent much of the last year working on his new album 'Ripcord' and says the album's themes of the passing of time and living in the moment are things he thinks about a lot.
In an interview on an upcoming episode of CBS' Sunday Morning' show, he said: "I've always had that feeling. I have for many, many years ... that everything is now. This is all there is, now. In the moment."
The former 'American Idol' judge began his career in Australia and while he was surprised at how long it took for things to take off in the US, he admits his music was very different to everything else on offer in the Nashville scene.
He said: "I really wasn't prepared for how long it was going to take.
"I was just really musically out of step with everything here, but I wanted to be here, so it was just digging in roots and staying the course."
Nicole - who also has grown-up children Connor and Isabella with ex-husband Tom Cruise - recently admitted she thinks the key to her lasting marriage to Keith is that they "like" one another.
She said: "We fly all over the world [to see one another]. But not out of obligation, just because I like him. I love him, but I also like him."
