Katy Perry's friends are said to be shocked she's rekindled her relationship with John Mayer.
The singer has enjoyed "numerous dinner dates and sleepovers" with Mayer in recent weeks, but Perry's close friends are surprised at the reunion.
One source told PEOPLE magazine: "[It's] a complete 180 from where she was weeks ago."
The on-off romance with John was ended last February as the two clashed over how to deal with their relationship whilst she was on her world tour.
PEOPLE's insider added: "They're both outspoken and independent. It draws them together, but it can cause problems at times."
But this time round they're determined to make things work.
"They are in love and have been seeing each other for a while. They missed each other.
"They seem very happy about being back together again. [But] they have to make time for each other and figure out how they can be together in a smooth relationship."
Many suggested that John was "jealous" of Katy's career when she said last October that many of her former boyfriends were "threatened" by her lifestyle.
"A lot of times I've ended up with people who have been intimidated by me, unfortunately. They say they're not, but it comes out in the long run. They're threatened, or there's resentment because they don't know how to handle it."
