Katie Couric has been lined up as the guest host of ‘Jeopardy!’ following the death of Alex Trebek.
The 64-year-old television and online journalist is reportedly set to temporarily take over hosting duties on the popular game show as a guest host following the sad death of Alex, who passed away in November at the age of 80 following battle with stage four pancreatic cancer.
The news was first reported by the Los Angeles Times, and comes as ‘Jeopardy!’ bosses announced plans to have guest hosts lead the show until they find a permanent replacement.
It’s not yet known how long Katie - who is best known for working on the ‘Today’ show, ‘CBS Evening News’, and her eponymously titled series ‘Katie’ - will be in the position, but it has also been confirmed that former ‘Jeopardy!’ champion Ken Jennings has also been booked for one of the guest-hosting slots.
Alex can currently still be seen on screens as his final episodes - which were filmed earlier in 2020 - are airing this week, with his very last episode set to air on Friday (08.01.21).
On Monday (04.01.21) night’s episode, Trebek delivered a powerful message about togetherness and giving, particularly amid the coronavirus pandemic.
He said: “You’ll recall that about a month ago, I asked all of you to take a moment to give thanks for all of the blessings that you enjoy in your lives. Now, today, a different kind of message. This is the season of giving. I know you want to be generous with your family, your friends, your loved ones.
“Today, I’d like you to go one step further. I’d like you to open up your hands and open up your hearts to those who are still suffering because of COVID-19. People who are suffering through no fault of their own. We’re trying to build a gentler, kinder society, and if we all pitch in - just a little bit - we’re gonna get there.”
