Kate Winslet claims she doesn't recognise most famous people.
The 38-year-old actress, who has been close friends with Leonardo DiCaprio since they were first propelled into the spotlight after starring in 'Titanic' in 1997, is glad she found fame before social media sites, such as Instagram and Twitter, started and doesn't understand why reality TV stars, including Kim Kardashian, are considered celebrities.
The 'Labor Day' star told Total Film: "When I'm in Waitrose, I literally stand at this bank of magazines going, 'Who are all these people?' Half the time, I don't even know who they are!"
She added: "Now there's a lot of focus on television stars and soap stars and these real-life Kardashian-type families. But yeah, I'm very, very grateful, when it was happening to Leo and I, we didn't have any of this cyber-chaos."
The blonde beauty - who has daughter Mia, 13, with ex-husband Jim Threapleton, son Joe, 10, with ex-husband Sam Mendes, and two-month-old son Bear with husband Ned Rocknroll - also believes that critics are kinder to her now that she is a bit older.
She said: "It seems to be more of a respectful thing as you get older. When you're younger, they really do treat you like you're loose bait. They know that they can get in there somehow. Whereas when you're older, they know that they can't do quite as much damage."
