Kate Hudson feels “connected” to musicians.
The 41-year-old actress has a history of dating people in the music business – having previously been married to The Black Crowes frontman Chris Robinson, engaged to Muse frontman Matt Bellamy, and currently dating guitarist Danny Fujikawa – and has now said the reason she’s so “attracted to musical people” is because she “connects to music in a way you don’t have to explain”.
She said: “I would like to say they’re attracted to me. I’m attracted to musical people, period. From the outside, yeah, I get it. ‘Oh, I like a rock star,’ or whatever. But that’s not really what it is.
“The reason I connect so deeply with musicians … is because we all connect to music in a way that you don’t have to explain. You just feel it, and it’s something you love.”
However, the ‘Almost Famous’ star jokingly added: “The lifestyle is not something to fall in love with.”
Kate – who has son, Ryder, 17, with Chris, son Bingham, nine, with Matt, and daughter Rani Rose, two, with Danny – also has her own experience in the music world, as she had to sing, dance, and act in order to make it as a performer.
Speaking to InStyle magazine about her childhood – where she was raised by her mother Goldie Hawn and step-father Kurt Russell – she explained: “I grew up with parents who are old-school. And when you are a performer, you do everything. You dance, you sing, you act, and you try to make these skills go together. That’s all I wanted to do. I wanted to sing, I wanted to dance, and then I wanted to act.”
Meanwhile, Kate recently said she is thankful Kurt Russell taught her what a "dependable father figure" is like, as she has been estranged from her biological father, Bill Hudson, for decades.
She said last month: "I think that estrangement is unfortunately quite common.
"I think it's important for people to talk about that. If they can't reconnect or if it's too challenging, that it's OK, right?
"It's a 41-year-old issue. I have a great family. I have a beautiful mother. I have a stepfather who stepped in and played a huge, huge part in sharing what it is to have a dependable father figure in our life.
"But it doesn't take away from the fact that we didn't know our dad."
