Kat Von D is set to release an album of songs based on her “hopeless romantic thoughts”.
The ‘LA Ink’ star has had high-profile romances with the likes of Mötley Crüe bassist Nikki Sixx, reality TV personality Jesse James, andDJ Deadmau5, and she is now set to channel her romantic thoughts into a new artform, as she kickstarts her music career.
Kat – who is currently married to artist Rafael Reyes – will release ‘Love Made Me Do It’ on August 27.
Speaking about the album, she said: “'Love Made Me Do It' is a collection of all my hopeless romantic thoughts poured into one album."
To celebrate the announcement, the tattoo artist dropped her debut single, ‘Exorcism’, on Thursday (27.05.21), which takes the listener on a reflective journey through the cycles of love and loss, rebirths and passings, the feelings of vulnerability and hardships a woman faces as she makes her way through challenges in her life.
About the single, Kat said: "I wrote 'Exorcism' after having binged on every exorcist movie that ever existed. I loved the idea of tying the act of being possessed by something outside your control to what love can sometimes feel like; losing yourself in someone else, and sometimes it leaving you black and blue."
The TV star has been a classically trained pianist since her youth and will channel her musical expertise on her upcoming record, which features collaborations with the likes of Dave Grohl, Linda Perry, Dave Sitek, Peter Murphy, Danny Lohner, Ladyhawke and Charo.
Kat’s latest career move comes after she stepped down from her beauty company last year, which is now operated by her partners at Kendo under the name KvD Vegan Beauty.
At the time, Kat said she was leaving the company to focus on raising her two-year-old son, Leafar Von Drachenberg Reyes, as well as other creative pursuits such as her music career.
She said: “This past year has been one of great change for me. As many of you know, I gave birth to my beautiful baby boy, launched my vegan shoe line, and am now busy prepping to release my long awaited album in the Spring, followed by an international tour!
“As much as I wish I could balance all of this, on top of continuing my makeup line, it has become clear to me that I just can’t do everything at the maximum capacity. It's hard to admit this, since I’ve always said ‘You can do everything and anything.’ But I don’t think admitting one's limits is a bad thing.
"With that said, I’ve decided to sell my shares of the brand, turning it over to Kendo, my partners for the past 11 years.
“This was not an easy decision, but after careful consideration, I decided I wanted the makeup line to continue to thrive and grow, and I believe Kendo is primed to do just that. (sic)”
