Kanye West pulled out of the Coachella music festival held in the Californian desert earlier this week to protect the safety of his ex-Kim Kardashian and her new boyfriend Pete Davidson.
But now his replacements have been announced.
Swedish House Mafia and The Weeknd are set to play in the rapper’s place in a joint headline set and they will take to the stage on both weekends, April 17th and April 24th.
“I’m so looking forward to this moment with Swedish House Mafia and The Weeknd finishing out the Sunday night slot this year,” the CEO of Coachella promoter Goldenvoice Paul Tollett said in a statement to Variety.
“Coachella has a special relationship with Abel (Tesfaye – The Weeknd) and I’m so thankful to have this upcoming performance with these iconic artists all on the same stage.”
This will be The Weeknd’s second time he will headline Coachella after he did it back in 2018, but it’s the Swedish House Mafia’s debut in headlining this infamous festival.
Kanye, also known as Ye, threatened to pull out of Coachella if Billie Eilish, who is performing at the music event, didn’t apologise to Travis Scott over comments she allegedly made after last year’s Astroworld tragedy.
But Eilish rubbished these claims and said she “literally never said a thing about Travis” and she was “just helping a fan.”
No official reason has been given as to why West has withdrawn from the festival, but it appears he is laying low after posting a series of messages and pictures of Instagram which seemingly threatened Davidson and tried to get a reaction out of his beauty and fashion mogul estranged wife.
Coachella gets underway with it’s first weekend in just under a week on April 15th, 2022 and wraps up on April 24th, 2022.
