John Cena says speaking publicly about his feelings for his former fiancée Nikki Bella was about being "honest".
The 41-year-old wrestler confessed his desire to start a family with Nikki whilst on the 'Today' show on Monday (14.05.18), just weeks after he and the 'Total Bellas' star called time on their romance.
And now, the 'Blockers' actor has revealed he has no regrets about his comments, as he felt it was important to be open and honest about his feelings both privately and in public.
Speaking again on the 'Today' show on Tuesday (15.05.18), he said: "I was given a chance to be honest and I think that's important. I don't know if people understand how hard it is to lead a life in the public eye. I'm grateful that I'm also respectful of people's opinions on what happened yesterday.
"I did what I did yesterday for one person, and one person only. And that's because I love her, and I think in times of separation, oftentimes you speculate on what the other person is doing, and sometimes communication can get messed up and this is something that people don't always understand. When you live life in the public, sometimes if you do something in private, and then you do something different in public, that person can be, like, 'Well, you treat me two different ways.'
"So, it was very important for me to be honest with myself, with you, with all of you, because in turn that allows me to be honest with Nicole and I don't care about the environment. I don't care about anybody's comments, I care about one person."
Earlier this week, John had told the show's hosts Hoda Kotb and Kathie Lee Gifford that he wanted nothing more than to patch up his relationship with 34-year-old Nikki, even stating he would like to have children with her despite being against the idea previously.
He said: "I still love Nicole, I still would love to marry Nicole, I still would love to have a family with Nicole."
And Nikki - who is the twin sister of fellow wrestler Brie Bella - later admitted she was left "speechless" by his comments.
She said: "I'm speechless. That's crazy. I have hope ... I'm at a point in my life where I feel like I kind of lost me and I want to find me and work on me.
"I just want John and I both to live happily ever after whether it's together or separate and I just don't want us to go down the road in life and have regrets of like 'I did this for you' or 'you did this for me,' so I think it's okay in relationships to take that moment."
