Ashlee Simpson grew closer to her father after he was diagnosed with prostate cancer.
The 33-year-old singer always had a stronger bond with her mom Tina when she was growing up, while her dad Joe had a better relationship with elder daughter Jessica but after the family patriarch was told he had the disease two years ago, the 'Pieces of Me' hitmaker did her best to spend as much time with him as possible.
In scenes from the latest episode of her reality show 'Ashlee + Evan', Ashlee said: "Jessica was more of a daddy's girl and I was a mommy's girl.
"I've been developing and growing my relationship with my father."
And Ashlee - who has son Bronx, nine, from her marriage to Pete Wentz and daughter Jagger, three, with husband Evan Ross - admitted she feels "so lucky" to still have Joe in her life.
She said: "I have a different appreciation for you than I did when I was a kid, a stubborn kid, I'm so lucky to have you, daddy."
During an emotional meeting, Joe spoke of how the condition had taken its toll on his health but admitted he agreed to undergo surgery for the sake of his family.
He said: "The biggest part is, because I don't have testosterone, I just don't have energy. So you have to power through.
"A year ago changed my life. I remember saying to my doctor, 'What if I don't have surgery?' He said: 'In six months you'll be dead.' I really wrestled with [having surgery] and saying I'll see you guys later.
"I couldn't do that to you and to your sister and to my grandbabies."
Joe was declared cancer free back in July, two years after diagnosis.
He said at the time: "I feel good. I beat it. I have zero cancer. I went from Stage IV to cancer-free."
