Joan Rivers has been moved out of intensive care and is now resting in a private room.

Rivers has been in the intensive care unit at New York's Mount Sinai Hospital since Thursday after being hospitalised after a routine throat operation.

Rivers was admitted to the hospital suffering from cardiac and respiratory arrest and was placed in a medically induced coma by doctors.

The funny woman may have been moved out of the ICU, but she remains in a coma and on life support for the time being. However, she is believed to be resting comfortably in the privacy of her own room inside the hospital.

Her daughter Melissa has been at her mother’s beside since last week and has kept worried fans updated with the latest news of her condition.

Melissa, who works alongside her mother in television, has also thanks fans the outpouring of support the family has received during this critical time.

In a new statement released by Melissa yesterday, she once again reiterated that message, as well as giving us all an update on her mother’s condition.

The statement read: "My mother has been moved out of intensive care and into a private room where she is being kept comfortable. Thank you for your continued support.”

It has not been revealed when she may be taken off life support, brought out of the coma, and how long it may take her to recover.

The eighty one year old was undergoing a procedure on her vocal chords at a separate clinic in New York when the emergency occurred. She was immediately rushed to Mount Sinai Hospital where she has been receiving her care ever since.

Rivers is one of the most recognised comediennes and is best known for her stand up and voicing her very strong opinions.
She is currently enjoying huge success as the host of celebrity fashion show Fashion Police on E!: a show which kicked off back in 2010.

Her Fashion Police co-stars Giuliana Rancic, Kelly Osbourne, and George Kotsiopoulos have all send their best wishes to Joan and Melissa.

There has been an out-pouring of support for Rivers over the last week with the likes of Charlie Sheen, Rosie O’Donnell, Larry King, and Ellen DeGeneres all taking to Twitter to post their messages of support.
