Joan Rivers laughed about going to hospital for "a little procedure" the night before the operation that left her on life support.
Joan Rivers 81-year-old comedienne went into cardiac arrest while having surgery on her vocal cords last week and has now been put on life support, but her close friend Jay Redack has revealed Joan didn't think the throat operation was anything to worry about.
Jay - who is her former writing partner - explained: "She said her throat was bothering her for a long time. Her voice was getting more raspy, if that was possible.
"She said she was just going in for a little procedure in the morning, that was it."
The pair were enjoying a meal and Jay has confessed they even joked about which of them would be the first to die.
He added to the New York Post newspaper's PageSix: "What's ironic is at dinner [Wednesday night], we were talking about who goes first. I've known Joan so damn long.
"I said, 'Here's what I'll leave you if I go first. What'll you leave me?' She said, 'I'll think about it'."
Jay insists Joan was "up and alive and having a ton of fun" while they laughed their "asses off" at the restaurant and claims he tried to visit her at hospital but wasn't allowed past security.
Meanwhile, Joan's daughter Melissa has thanked well wishers, saying the family are keeping their "fingers crossed" for a recovery.
