The 28-year-old singer made the comments as she introduced her hit track 'Who You Are' at WE Day at The SSE Arena in Wembley, north London.

She said: "When you feel like you're getting lost, don't forget this; when you feel like you're losing yourself, you're falling into yourself. Don't forget that. Whenever you feel scared or confused and you feel that the energy in your world is drifting or changing, it's because you're getting to know you.

"What you're doing everyday in your lives is building you as a beautiful person. You have no idea how much you guys inspire me. [Don't lose who you are] because it's a waste of time and really boring if you're anyone else."

And the 'Price Tag' hitmaker went on to admit there has been times when she has struggled herself.

She added: "Everything that you're doing is standing the test of time and I wanted to share with you what I do to try and stand the test of time, and if anyone needs this song right now or has ever needed this song, I want you to take this moment to be proud of yourselves and how far you've come. It's okay not to be okay.

"I want you to close your eyes and have this moment for yourself. Please sing along if you know the words and if you don't know the words don't sing along - no, you can just make them up."
